Frankfurt Book Fair 16th until 20th October 2024
Once a year Frankfurt's streets are filled with people who would like to swap books, people who write books, and of course those who just love books and literature. The Frankfurt Book Fair is always held in autumn and is next to the Leipzig Book Fair one of the most important German-language literature fair for publishers, authors, book agents, translators and journalists. Over the five days they can promote business, get inspiration and exchange ideas. On the weekend the halls under the fair trade tower are traditionally open to the public.
Highlights at the Frankfurt Book Fair
During the book fair the whole of Frankfurt celebrates. The most beautiful places of the city offer book publishers and other book companies as well as organisations receptions areas and gala dinners. On many stages throughout the city special author readings and events take place, all in connection with the book fair. Special programmes are casted from radio and television. Around the same time the Nobel Prize for Literature in Stockholm is announced and this is followed closely at the Frankfurt Book Fair. The publishers, who work with the Nobel prize winner together celebrate with special receptions. As part of the book fair the German Book Prize and the German Youth Literature Prize are awarded. And the greatest highlight is the award for the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade. The winner will traditionally hold the acceptance speech on Sunday in the Frankfurt St. Paul Church. Each year the fair invites a different country to introduce its culture and especially its poets and artists.
